As Bio-Fibras

"Six decades of polymer and fiber know-how demonstrate DuPont leadership in the world of making innovative products. As a result of this experience, DuPont has developed specific technology for the cost-effective production of Sorona® 3GT™ fiber. DuPont also has developed a dominant portfolio of patents in the production of Sorona® products as well as manufacturing expertise. These include Bio-PDO™ corn-derived chemical/1,3-propanediol, continuous polymerization, differentiated polymers, additives or modifiers, fiber spinning, fiber end uses, and recycling. Sorona® is one member of a family of polymers based on Bio-PDO™ corn-derived chemical/1,3-propanediol.
A joint venture between DuPont and Tate & Lyle PLC has been formed to produce 1,3-propanediol (PDO), the key building block for DuPont™ Sorona® polymer, using a proprietary fermentation and purification process based on corn sugar. This bio-based method uses less energy, reduces emissions and employs renewable resources instead of traditional petrochemical processes.

In addition to the above-mentioned advantages, other benefits of transitioning to a bio-based process for manufacturing PDO include use of a smaller environmental footprint, lower manufacturing costs, less needed capital and a more reliable supply of feedstock.
The new company, DuPont Staley Bio Products Co., LLC, is equally owned by DuPont and Tate & Lyle and will be based in Wilmington, Delaware."
